Board Development

Organizational Objectives

The Board Development process is used by organizations that:

  • Are embarking on new strategies
  • Are growing rapidly or providing services to new communities
  • Have a board that has become stagnant over the years
  • Need to restructure the board to make it more effective
  • Want to increase the capacity of their board
  • Are newly-formed and in the process of building a board

Description

Nonprofit organizations are only as healthy as the boards that govern them. The Board Development process includes techniques for identification, cultivation, selection, recruitment, orientation, education, recognition, assessment, rotation, and separation of board volunteers. Board volunteers learn the competencies needed to lead your organization effectively in the areas of governance and fundraising.
